I have a dream… to redecorate our home in a way that is uniquely us and ties our eclectic mix of possessions together. I have some ideas of how to achieve this, but thus far I have ventured to make a start on but a few of those ideas. Of course I was super happy with the outcome of my first creative project… Having had the African print material for over 7 years it was amazing that it tied in perfectly with the existing curtains which came with the house! Let’s face it, I’ve never been the most patient of people in this world. I don’t do waiting very well. It’s probably one of my most typical Gen Y traits (while I technically fit into Gen Y based on age, I generally identify better with Gen X traits… I guess I was just born old). But does anyone these days enjoy waiting? Or have the technological advancements of the last 25 years ruined our ability to sit happily on our laurels while waiting for something to be sorted out… I mean we’re there even customer care call centres 25 years ago? Or did you have to write a letter or visit in person to get something sorted out with your telecommunications provider (insert any type of company here you like really)! Continue Reading…
According to a friend of mine, there are a lot of people who grow up with their ideal home design in their head… But far fewer who have an ideal apartment design in their heads – and they all become architects. And yes, this friend is an Architect and I doubt he’s done any large studies to test this theory – but anyway, for the purposes of this post let’s just run with the idea shall we?! Continue Reading…
I’ve always loved creative pursuits, instilled by my wonderful ‘second mum’ in my childhood! Of course there was also the teacher who took us for an after school hand-sewing class in year four, Mrs Foot who took us for Friday afternoon art classes in our later primary school years when a group of us would be allowed to walk from swimming lessons to her house (growing up in South Africa that was a much bigger deal than it would have been here in Australia)! We’d have time to get lost in our imaginations as we’d play in ‘the magic far-away tree’ out the front of her house waiting for the beginning of our lesson. At another stage there were Friday afternoon art & craft classes in my childhood best friend’s garage… her Mum (my childhood ‘second mum’) and another family friend would come up with amazingly creative projects for us… marble painting egg shells and all manner of other delights! Incidentally, that concrete floored, double garage also holds memories of awesomely disgusting party games involving passing cooked spaghetti in our toes along a line (moving a plateful from one end of the line to the other without touching it with our hands)… ah, childhood! Such special memories that certainly have contributed to shaping the person I am today! Continue Reading…
As parents (well, really I can only offer a mother’s perspective) we all have rough weeks! Our little bundles of joy grow up, they become toddlers, they begin to talk… it’s such an exciting time! We encourage them, expose them to as much language as possible… and then it happens… they discover their favourite words/ phrases, “No”, “Go away”, “Dat”, “Mine”, “More”, and the latest favourite in our house… “need”! Seriously kiddo?! Nice try, but really can’t you give me a little more credit than that?!

I had a lovely break from the computer for majority of the last couple of weeks! Hubby had a uni assignment due which meant he had priority for computer time for a week or so and the last week was a lovely time that Cheeky Monkey and I got to spend with Gogo! By golly I didn’t expect the jump in emotion when it came time to say goodbye to Gogo at the end of the week!!! Cheeky Monkey woke from his afternoon nap and was devastated that Gogo wasn’t around (despite plenty of prepping him on what was going to happen through-out the morning)… he was very sad and once I helped him with the language to articulate what he was feeling he kept repeating “Miss Gogo”, “Gogo home” (though the poor darling meant he wanted Gogo to come to OUR home, not go back to hers as she had done)… which ultimately led to “come back Gogo”. Poor little Cheeky Monkey! So much to learn every day!!! Continue Reading…
Ah, we’ve hit the age-old issue once again… our hard drive (which seemed MASSIVE when we bought our new, shiny iMac in our first year of marriage) is now well and truly TOO SMALL! Getting into photography, learning Adobe Creative Suite and such activities are putting a serious strain on our storage space! Even the external hard drive told me it couldn’t duplicate my iPhoto library (so that I can then split it) as there wasn’t enough space! So some deletion of old backups was in order to free up some space! So as I write this, I’m duplicating said iPhoto library in order to split it and free up more space on our iMac hard drive! It is what it is… hubby needs to do his uni work and having a little pop up every now and then saying the space is almost full doesn’t make for a study conducive environment!!! Continue Reading…
“Fire! Fire! Fire!… Help!… Peepul!”
Hear an emergency vehicle siren and that’s right folks, I’m the mother in the awkward position of having my Cheeky Munchkin yelling “Fire!”. Bless him! He means ‘fire truck’ but doesn’t see the need for the additional word at this stage! So of course, I obliged and threw him a Fire truck party for his second birthday recently! Continue Reading…
I can’t believe I am now the mother of a two-year old! Gosh that crept up on me quickly! I guess in the months of Glandular Fever and the ongoing fatigue that has followed I wasn’t really paying attention to the same extent as I normally would have been. I mean don’t get me wrong… I knew it was coming, but this quickly?!
I remember vividly the day my waters broke… I was having lunch at our pastor’s house (his wife being my bible group leader) and I went to the toilet as heavily pregnant ladies are want to do. I remember thinking, ‘seriously I know I’m due in a few days, but I haven’t lost complete control of my bladder!!!’ That big gushing, flood of water they show in the movies… Well it doesn’t happen much in real life, for me it was like someone didn’t turn the tap off properly. Quite delightful really… especially when you kinda need to share with those you’re with so you can quickly take your leave. Continue Reading…
I hope you are all having a good Easter and have taken the time to reflect on the fact that chocolate eggs, the ‘Easter bunny’ and other traditions are not the be all and end all of Easter. Easter is a wonderful opportunity to remember the sacrifice God and Jesus made so that every single human being may have the opportunity to choose to have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ!
